Cost estimates

The budget figures in our guides and trip plans are estimates, given as ranges, in Indian rupees, at a point in time. They are indicative only. Actual costs vary enormously with season, day of the week, how far ahead you book, group size, festival dates and local demand — in some destinations the same room can cost three times more in late December than in October.

Treat our numbers as a planning starting point, not a quotation. Always confirm current prices with the operator or property before committing.

Automatically generated and third-party content

Parts of the trip planner output are generated using AI language models and automated web search, and some place data comes from third-party providers including Google Places, LocationIQ, OpenStreetMap and Open-Meteo.

This means the planner can occasionally return a place that has closed, a name that is slightly wrong, an activity that is seasonal, or a detail that is simply inaccurate. Where a planner suggestion matters to your trip, verify it independently. Our hand-written destination guides are separate editorial work and are reviewed by a person, but they too go out of date.

Safety information

Our guides mention safety issues where we are aware of them — altitude sickness in Ladakh, river currents at Rishikesh, monsoon landslides in Himachal Pradesh and Kodagu, sea conditions in Goa, wildlife on hill roads. These notes are not a substitute for proper preparation, local advice, or medical guidance.

For anything involving altitude, water, trekking, driving on mountain roads or your health, consult a qualified professional and follow current local and official advice. Conditions change daily and we cannot know the situation on the day you travel.

Permits, visas and regulations

We describe permit and access requirements as we understand them — Inner Line Permits for parts of Ladakh, forest department quotas at Eravikulam, monument closure days, restricted areas. These rules change, sometimes at short notice, and differ for Indian and foreign nationals.

Verify all visa, permit and entry requirements with the relevant government authority or your embassy before you book. We accept no responsibility for a refused entry, a denied permit or a closed site.
